Hands-Only CPR & Fire Extinguisher Training, October 30, 2017
On a beautiful fall Saturday in October 21 community members joined the volunteers with Pierce County Fire District 13 at an event co-sponsored with Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Browns Point to learn hands-only CPR, AED and Fire Extinguisher Training!
The event ran from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and was held at Saint Matthews. The participants learned the importance of maintaining a fire extinguisher, where to store a fire extinguisher, and how to use a fire extinguisher. Participants also learned the importance of maintaining smoke detectors and running an annual testing (FF/EMT Randy Thompson recommends annual testing beyond making burnt-toast). The participants also learned how to administer hands-only CPR and how to attach an AED for a victim of a heart attack. All smiles, the participants continued their scenarios for 10 minutes and rotating positions with other responders.
A special thank you to Assistant Chief Jim Wassall and the following FF/EMT volunteers who helped with the event: Randy Thompson, Jack Jacobson, Monica Watchie, Scott McCaine, and Justin Rodgers. A special thank you to the folks at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church Robert Witter, Kathleen Monahan, and Father Kendal Haynes for your continued partnership.
