Fire Academy|
The Academy program is held twice a year. Textbooks are available through the Academy and may be
obtained once course registration is verified. An Academy duty shirt will be
provided, but students are expected to provide their own PPE. Students graduate with the minimum requirements for
volunteer firefighters, including state certifications in Firefighter I and
Hazardous Materials Operations. |

Prerequisite:
Students must be 18 years old and must have a high school diploma or
equivalent. You must be able to read
and write the English language fluently enough to perform the duties of a
firefighter and Washington State EMT.
Applicants must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license
and a history of safe driving.
Must also have successfully passed Public Safety First Aid and
Healthcare Provider CPR prior to the start of the Academy. For those who do not possess this as a minimum,
you will be required to attend these courses prior to the first day
of class. The 09-01 Combine Academy began in April 2009 and
included recruits from Pierce County Fire Districts 13, 14, 17 and 18. These
Districts encompass the following communities: Browns Point, Dash Point,
Riverside, South Pierce and Orting.

PCFD 13 will be sponsoring a (10 week) EMT Basic class
starting January 12, 2010.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 1800 to
2200 hours and every Saturday from 0800 to 1700 hours. The class fee is $650 which includes
textbooks and virtual classroom.
Class size is limited to 28 seats on a first come, first served
basis. Individuals that are
active members of fire departments will have priority until December 15,
2009, when the class will be open to anyone meeting the prerequisites. Click to download Course

Prerequisite: Applicants must
possess a valid Washington State drivers license, current CPR card (American
Heart Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross CPR for the professional
rescuer), be 18 years or older.
All students must furnish proof of a current TB test and HBV
vaccination. Fire departments or
sponsoring organizations must provide proof of background checks. Each student must bring copies of the
required documentation to the first day of class. Students will also be required to
furnish their own stethoscope, BP cuff, and penlight and bring them to the
