Pierce County Fire District 13 is staffed with approximately 48 very dedicated individuals with career and educational goals. They are here to serve and protect this community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Most of our members are Emergency Medical Technicians and respond to medical emergencies as well as fire related emergencies.
Pierce County Fire District 13 responds to emergency calls for service. Out of these calls, 65% are EMS, 20% are fire related, and the remaining 15% are service, rescue, and Hazardous Materials calls. In addition to responding to emergencies we train extensively, as well as conduct pre-fire planning, and public education including CPR/AED classes.
Pierce County Fire District 13 consists of 2 stations. Station 77 is located in Browns Point and Station 76 is located in Dash Point. Station 77 has a Fire Engine, two marine units (PWC), and a Command Vehicle utilized as a rescue vehicle. Station 76 has a Fire Engine, an Ambulance, a Type 6 brush truck, and our decontamination facilities.
The response area for Pierce County Fire District 13 is approximately 5 square miles. The southern boundary is the City of Tacoma (by the Cliff House Restaurant) and the northern boundary is Dash Point State Park (Federal Way). We also cover halfway across Commencement Bay between our northern and southern boundaries. We have mutual aid agreements with the Tacoma Fire Department and South King Fire & Rescue. We also utilize Rural/Metro Ambulance, American Medical Response, and Airlift Northwest for medical transport.
In Partnership with our community, we create a safer Fire District by providing the best possible fire and EMS services, protecting the lives, property and environment of our citizens.
When American settlement began around Commencement Bay, the community was a part of King County and the Puyallup Indian Reservation. By 1915 the community had its own volunteer fire department. Lighthouse Keeper Oscar Brown was Chief of the Volunteers.
